How can my calls be switched to the Consortium network?
We use a system called Carrier Pre Select.
What is Carrier Pre Select?
Carrier Pre Select (CPS) is a service which enables the routing of calls via another carrier other than BT, without the need to dial a prefix code before the destination number or to have a PBX specially programmed, or without the use of routers or dialling boxes. With CPS the calls are re-routed via the BT exchange and not through an automated process with a dialler or pre dialled prefix.
What benefits can I gain by using CPS?
CPS can offer a simple and neat equipment free solution to routing your calls. You can make calls to anywhere in the world at a dramatically reduced rate. You can still pay your line rental to BT if you prefer, but your phone calls are billed by us at a discount of up to 60%. There are no extra charges, we simply bill you for the calls you make.
Can Consortium take over the responsibility of the line from BT or must I have separate bills for calls and line rental?
Yes - you can switch the whole package over to Consortium and receive one simple monthly bill for all your costs.
Are all BT services compatible with CPS?
Most BT services are compatible with Consortium, however CPS cannot be currently offered to the following types of Lines:
If I already have a dialler box can I still use Consortium?
Yes, you can. Please contact our customer services on 0870 190 8900 for advice on the best way to route your calls with or without your dial box. Under normal circumstances you will just need to unplug the dialler. If your PBX is pr-programmed then it will need to be re-programmed. Please contact us and we will be happy to arrange this for you.
How will I be invoiced?
You will receive an invoice from Consortium each month for the calls you have used. There is an itemised statement enclosed with the invoice. Your payment will be taken by direct debit within 14 days of the date on the invoice.
Will I still receive charges on my BT Bill?
The only things you will be billed for by BT are Line rental charges and special services for example BT call minder and Call divert.
How will I know when my calls will be routed via Consortium?
We will send you a letter informing you of the date that your calls will begin to route though Consortium.
How long does it take for CPS to be connected?
Providing all information supplied is correct then it takes 14 days for connection.
My business needs internet connectivity - can Consortium help with this also?
Yes - Consortium offers a range of Internet options including Broadband and ISDN.
Is it true that I can actually receive payment every time someone rings me - without having to have a 'premium rate' number?
Yes - Our non-geographic numbers are charged at normal national rates but you still earn money every time someone calls. What's more it gives your business a national presence which really enhances your prestige in the eyes of major corporate clients.
